I like to use SCRATCHBOARD, or SCRAPERBOARD for illustration work and as a medium.
The board is made up of a hard compressed layer of chalk which is coated with black ink. This black layer can be scratched away quite easily using a variety of tools, from needles to sandpaper, and muted with washes of water and water based paints and inks.
The extremely detailed graphic effect is like forms of etching, except that prints cannot be taken from the surface, making each board an individual original.
Most of the images shown here are past illustrations for magazines.
